6 month-fixed term contracts
We are the nursing and midwifery regulator for England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Islands. We exist to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public by setting standards for education, maintaining a register of nurses and midwives and investigating those whose fitness to practise is called into question.
As a highly motivated and organised self-starter you will be required to provide paralegal support, this may include: assessing referrals received by the NMC, identifying the most serious cases, conduct of investigations, preparation of cases for hearing before the NMC's practice committees and the High Court, and preparation of cases for the Registrar's advisory group and registration appeals.
You should have demonstrable experience of managing your own caseload, preferably in professional regulatory law. Crucial to your success will be your excellent communication skills, both written and oral. An integral part of the role will be liaising with witnesses, including the taking of statements and offering support where appropriate. Your work will require thorough and meticulous consideration and some knowledge of the law of evidence. You may be required to draft reports and charges. Time management and IT skills are also central to the role.
This is an exciting and varied role with scope to be involved in the full range legal work undertaken within the NMC.
