Job Description

 

The post holder will be expected to handle a high volume of cases in one of our specialist litigation areas within the organisation, working directly with clients, both in person and over the telephone. Specific duties will include:

 

  • Record an average of 7 hours of chargeable time each day without exception.

  • Liaising with clients concerning the case.

  • Information gathering, including: Contacting witnesses, taking witness statements, undertaking legal research, managing case files, drafting and proofreading notes at court and doing administration work such as arranging meetings and billing.

  • Instructing GP's, medical consultants and other expert witnesses.

  • Ensuring that pre-issue cases are moved forward without delay within the organisations timeframe.

  • Ensuring that all issued cases are run in line with CPR

  • Ensuring that issued cases are progressed efficiently, offering defendants the opportunity to settle at key points (e.g. at AQ stage; Upon Exchange of Witness Statements /Part 18 receipt/  Exchange of trial bundles etc),for reasonable profit costs to the Company

  • Clients are updated at least monthly and in any event upon the occurrence of any development in the client's case

  • Case files are worked diligently

  • Ensure all legal process/court  deadlines are met

  • Assist with workflow development and precedent/standard letters

  • Files are managed on a case management system through fast track litigation

  • Take part in relevant training and manage own personal development.

  • Attend meetings as and when required and report to the management team and Directors regarding office management and administrative support.

  • Any other reasonable management instruction deemed necessary for the smooth running of the organisation.

 

 

 

Person Specification:

 

Essential:

 

  • A minimum of 12 months experience of professional negligence cases

  • Pre and post litigation experience

  • A sound understanding and up to date knowledge of CPR

  • A good understanding of the litigation process to trial and pre action protocols

  • Experience of multi-track claims

  • Use of legal research for up to date cases

  • Excellent customer facing skills and strong communication abilities

  • Use of a Case Management System

  • Strong understanding of CPR, ability to draft responses and advise client on policy coverage to include insurance indemnity work, negligence and liability

 

Desirable:

 

  • Any legal qualification and / or training would be advantageous but not essential

  • Experience of high-value claims would be an advantage, although is not essential.

  • Experience and / or knowledge of IRIS

  • Experience of handling bulk caseloads
