Burges Salmon's 'high profile' (Legal 500) Planning Unit gives clients access to all aspects of the planning and compulsory law regime. Ranked in the 'top tier' category by both the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and the Legal 500, the 'highly respected' (Legal 500) team comprises of twelve dedicated Planning Solicitors, three of whom are qualified High Court advocates.
The Planning Unit has particular strengths in regeneration, mixed use, renewable energy, nuclear, minerals and waste, telecoms, housing, compulsory purchase and planning advocacy. Members of the Planning Unit are Legal Associates of the Royal Town and Country Planning Institute and the Law Society's Planning Panel of recommended experts. They also write and lecture extensively on a range of topics.
Work
Recent projects include:
Advising the London Development Agency on a number of compulsory purchase and compensation matters involving Crossrail and the Olympic Park.
Advising the Ministry of Justice in relation to its proposed new prison at Runwell.
Advising on city centre redevelopment projects in Bristol, Truro and West Bromwich.
Advising United Kingdom Nirex Ltd on nuclear waste disposal.
Advising on a S36 Electricity Act application to the DTI for consent to build a 66MW wind farm in Devon.
Advising East Devon District Council on its major projects, including Cranbrook (3000 + dwelling new settlement), an Intermodal freight facility and a prestigious new business park, a science park and a biomass District Heating Facility.
The successful candidate will enjoy a varied workload and have the opportunity to do their own advocacy. The post could include support to the firm's Local Government Team on local government law if the applicant is suitably experienced and enthusiastic.
Requirements
We look for a proven academic record, coupled with good quality planning experience (a minimum of 6 months relevant experience will be expected from newly qualified solicitors). We welcome applications from candidates working in both private practice and Local Government.
