Burges Salmon's 'hugely impressive' (Chambers 2011) Planning Unit gives clients access to all aspects of the planning and compulsory law regime. Ranked in the 'top tier' category by both the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and the Legal 500, the 'highly respected' (Legal 500) team comprises of ten dedicated Planning Solicitors, two of whom are qualified High Court advocates.
The Planning Unit has particular strengths in regeneration, mixed use, renewable energy, nuclear, minerals and waste, telecoms, housing, compulsory purchase and planning advocacy. Members of the Planning Unit are Legal Associates of the Royal Town and Country Planning Institute and the Law Society's Planning Panel of recommended experts. They also write and lecture extensively on a range of topics.
Work
Recent projects include:
· Advising the London Development Agency on a number of compulsory purchase and compensation matters involving the Olympic Park.
· Advising St Modwen/Taunton Deane BC on planning and CPO aspects of a major mixed use development at Firepool, Taunton.
· Advising on a wide range of energy consent applications, including to the IPC, for on and offshore wind, biomass and energy to waste.
· Advising East Devon District Council on a number of major projects, including Cranbrook (3000 + dwelling new settlement), an Intermodal freight facility, a prestigious new business park, a science park and a biomass District Heating Facility.
· Advising on challenges to planning consents, including Helius plc's 100MW biomass plant at Avonmouth and permissions for onshore wind developments.
The successful candidate will enjoy a varied workload and have the opportunity to do their own advocacy. The post could include support to the firm's Local Government Team on local government law if the applicant is suitably experienced and enthusiastic.
Requirements
We look for a proven academic record, coupled with good quality planning experience. We welcome applications from candidates working in both private practice and Local Government.
